MEET ELEVEN ORANGE PLATY FISH
Meet Snappy. Happy, Sleepy, Nappy, Sneaky, Stinky, Wiggly, Tingly, Kingly, Blingy, Clingly and six other nameless Orange Platy fish residing in an aquarium at Harbour Vista. Snappy the mother and Happy the father recently gave birth to sixteen baby fishes.
Encouraging the Birth
For the birth, a thunder and lightning app was set up on the owner's iPad projected against the aquarium. He also drained 30% of the water from the tank to protect the new fish when born. With the help of Tylenol for a night cold, the resident was awake when they were born at 3AM. He was able to save the majority of new born fish who had no idea they might be mom’s or dad’s next meal. Unfortunately he lost two of them. ■

PET OF THE MONTH
MEET GREAT BLUE HERON
Because the Bolsa Chica Bird sanctuary is just around the corner, Harbour Vista ponds and streams can attracted large waterfowl birds. It is not uncommon to see white egreps walk our streams. What is unusual and is our pet of the month, is a Great Blue Heron.
There he was standing across from a bridge on Grunion side near the garages. This bird stood at lease five and half feet tall. He held his gaze on me as I approach.
I move slowly, but he could finally not trust me anymore and took flight. Great Blue Heron can have a wing span of six feet. This one flew pass a building stairs and across a balcony into the sky. He was beautiful. Hope he returns. Anyway, one of our resident ducks complained to me that Ishould take a picture of her and her new duckling and stop gaping at the blue heron. So I obliged. ■

PET OF THE MONTH
MEET HUXLEY
Huxley is a 6 years old blue noise pit bull mix who was rescue from the local veterinary in Calistoga, California. Huxley was a favorite at the local veterinary clinic which rescued Huxsley after being found with part of a large chain link leash still attached to his spiked collar.
“Hux’s” as their loving owner calls him was scavenging in the wild for some time living off the wild life. But with loving helpers from the local veterinary, he was transformed into a great dog who loves little kids and dogs (except those who don’t like him).
It took a couple of trial homes before Hux’s decided he was exactly the right dog for his owner at Harbour Vista. He loves walking around with his owner at Harbour Vista meeting other dogs and residents. ■ |
